The U.S currently imports approximately 91% of its seafood. Typically referred to as Yellow or Red label shrimp, these imported products are susceptible to disease, contamination, pollution, pharmaceutical, substances, and a host of other impediments to food safety. According to the Center of Disease Control, 25% of food borne illness outbreaks caused by imported food from 2005-2010 involved seafood; this is more than any other food commodity.

Net Zero’s Aqualife I project will produce 100% Organic U15 Pacific White Tiger Jumbo Shrimp within a controlled, closed-looped environment and environmentally-friendly facility. According to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program, The Aqualife I project will be producing the highest quality and only, “green headless” shrimp in the country. In addition, this 100,000 sqft facility will utilize state of the art, proven technology, that is scalable, replicable and due to the closed loop configuration, can be built virtually anywhere in the world.

Shrimp is an attractive low cost protein source to meet the protein needs of a global population that is expected to grow from 7 billion in 2010 to 9 billion by 2050.  Today, shrimp is the leading sea-based protein source for U.S. consumers. The domestic U.S. shrimp market represents a $7.5 billion opportunity.
